Day 2 - Fowey to Moretonhampstead, 62 miles

We left the beautiful Cornish harbour town of Fowey, catching a 9am Ferry to Bodinnick and cycled a wonderful route of country lanes lined with high hedgerows, moss-clad stone walls and innumerable wild flowers. We descended into Looe, a fishing town with a stunning harbour.

Nothing to be triumphant about really - beginning of the day!

Looe Harbour in glorious sunshine

All felt like the Mediterranean

Downderry - a small coastal village. Again, all very Mediterranean. Big switchbacks to ascend prior to dropping down to Edgecombe and Plymouth

A fine, but massive lunch - carvery for most, nut roast for us

Ferry at Edgcumbe to Plymouth. Had to miss my coffee to catch it.

We shared this small passenger ferry with some bemused german tourists - Gute reise!

Filling water.

On the Plym way, one of the many Sustrans national cycle routes, previous train line.
Brew stop at the top of Dartmoor - stunning weather!

Fabulous selection of snacks at the brew stop. When we arrive we are gannets at the feeding trough.

Roadkill - none!
Distance 62miles (2000m climbing) followed by 45 min run
High point - stunning views out to sea, crossing Plymouth harbour, Dartmoor at its best
Low point - imagining I was a better cyclist than I was (chasing 3 fast cyclists up endless Devon hills)
